Achchuveli Industrial Zone:

Over thirty investors keen

Work to be complete by end 2011:

The initial work of the Achchuveli Industrial Estate in Jaffna has begun recently. There is an impressive progress in the industrial estate. The Army is helping in clearing the 65 acres of land while removing mines that were planted during the time of conflict. Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Ministry Secretary P Sivagnanasothy said the initial work and infrastructure developments are taking place at a rapid phase.

Sri Lanka’s export sector will focus on new avenues of doing business to increase volumes in the near future. “The country needs to re-look at the export strategy and go beyond traditional exports. “It is necessary to think out of the box to achieve export targets set for 2020.

Star Awards for packaging

Focus on research and development needed:

The value of Sri Lanka’s packaging industry is worth around US $ 1.5 billion and research and development is a key concern for this sector, Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen said. The Minister was addressing Star Awards Night 2010 held in Colombo organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging (SLIP) as the chief guest.
