Women robbers held
Kaththankudy police arrested three women suspects in connection with
an alleged robbery of gold jewellery worth Rs 65,000 and Rs 6,100 cash
from a passenger travelling in a private bus from Kaladi to Ariyampathi
on Wednesday night. The robbed items were recovered following
interrogation of the suspects.
The three suspects were produced before the Batticaloa Magistrate and
remanded until March 29. Investigations are continuing.
Chain snatcher cannot run faster
A suspect who snatched a gold chain worth Rs 90,000 from a pedestrian
at Ananda Vidyalaya Mawatha Matugama on Wednesday night were apprehended
by two youths following a chase and handed over to Matugama police with
the robbed item.
The suspect was due to be produced in court yesterday.
Hand grenades found
Two locally made hand grenades were found by Batticaloa police under
a palmyra tree in Thirayamadu following a tip off on Wednesday
afternoon. Investigations are continuing.
Three die in road mishap
Three persons died and 36 others were injured when a private bus from
Namunnukula to Passara ran off the road and hurtled down a precipice
near the 6/15 culvert on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as K M Gamini Kodituwakku (55) of
Devatara, Devadas Robert (49) of Butawatta and a resident of
Tennakumbura Estate upper division aged 55.
Twenty three injured persons were admitted to the Badulla hospital
and the balance 13 were admitted to the Passara hospital. The bus driver
was to be produced before the Badulla magistrate yesterday.
Passara police are investigating.
Suspect nabbed
A suspect who robbed a women's bicycle worth Rs 8,000 parked near a
tuition class at Lloyd Avenue, Batticaloa was apprehended by neighbours
and handed over to the Batticaloa police. He was due to be produced in
Court yesterday. |
