More jobs in construction sector soon

Construction Engineering Services , Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that there will be more job opportunities in the construction field in the future.

He was addressing a workshop on construction equipment awareness program for journalists at the Construction Equipment Training Centre, Battaramulla yesterday.

The Minister also pointed out that knowledge and skills will be required in the future than academic qualifications.

More job opportunities will be created in the tourism and construction field for skilled workers, he added. Many graduates from the Arts stream find it difficult to get jobs but skilled workers have no difficulty in getting jobs locally and abroad, Weerawansa said. "No Government had taken the of responsibility of school leavers. However the present Government has taken full responsibility of them. Measures are being taken to get the participation of school leavers for the construction field," he said.

More funds has been allocated from the budget this time by President Mahinda Rajapaksa for vocational training, Weerawansa said.
