Temporary ban on Apetamin-P syrup sale

The Cosmetic Devices and Drug Regulatory Authority of Sri Lanka has
imposed a temporary ban on the sale of Apetamin-P Syrup in the country
following an incident where an insect was found in an Apetamin-P syrup
bottle sold by a private pharmacy in Maho.
The bottle of syrup which contained the insect has been forwarded to
the Food and Drug Inspector in Kurunegala District by the customer who
bought the drug from the pharmacy.
The Food and Drug Inspector has sent the bottle to the Cosmetic
Devices and Drug Regulatory Authority for further investigations.
Apetamin-P syrup is used for allergies and to get an appetite.
This consignment of the drug has been imported from a company in
India.
According to Cosmetic Devices and Drug Regulatory Authority Director
Dr Hemantha Beneragama, the selling of Apetamin-P by private pharmacies
has been temporary banned due to this incident.
The Cosmetic Devices and Drug Regulatory Authority has already issued
a circular banning the selling of Apetamin-P since such contaminations
indicate a huge failure in production process. Therefore, a complete
laboratory test is being carried out by the Cosmetic Devices and Drug
Regulatory Authority, Dr Beneragama said. |
