Battle of Wayamba begins today

The 7th annual Battle of Wayamba between Wayamba Royal College Kurunegala and Sir John Kotelawela Vidyalaya Kurunegala will be played today and tomorrow at the Welagedara Stadium Kurunegala, starting at 9.30 am on both days.

The third limited overs game will be played on March 27 at the same venue.

So far the big match has not seen a winner and all Six encounters have ended without a decision while Wayamba Royal is leading in the one day series. Sir John Kotelawela is led by 4th year player R D A M Rathnayaka, an accurate right arm off spinner, who has captured twelve wickets in this school cricket season. Left arm off spinner R M D B Rajapaksha is the vice captain of the side. Sir John Kotelawela Vidyalaya played four matches this season and recorded two outright wins against Kuliyapitiya Central College and Kuliyapitiya Saranath College. Rest of the matches ended in draws.

Wayamba Royalists’ are captained by the all-rounder 4th year player Deleepa Nawarathna who has scored 584 runs and obtained 18 wickets.

Second year player, Right arm fast bowler Harendra Rashmika is the deputy of the team. Wayamba Royal played 6 matches and recorded one outright win against Carey College while others were drawn.
