SLPA Sports Stars to receive colours
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority will hold its annual Colours Nite on
Friday to flicitate their outstanding sports men and women at the Ramada
Hotel under the patronage of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Over 160 sportsmen and women of Sri Lanka Sports Authority who
performed well in 13 sports disciplines are lined up to receive awards
on this day. These details were disclosed to the media by SLPA Working
Director Prasanna Kalutarage on Tuesday.
Kalutarage further said the award winners have brought in great
amount of honour the SLPA through sport and it is the duty of us to
felicitate them on a grand manner. The SLPA in the past has helped many
sportsmen and women by way of absorbing them to SLPA and supporting them
with all the necessary facilities to uplift their sporting talents.
This not only gave the institution a good name in the sporting arena
but also they were able to reach national standards and had the
opportunity of representing the country at international events. Our
Institutions support paid heavy dividends when some of them won medals
at international level which we can be proud of, said Kalutarage. He
further added that at the colours ceremony there will be three sports
stars who will receive the ‘Golden Anchor Award ‘ which is the highest
award given only once to a sports star for his or her excellence in a
particular sport. These three names will only be announced at the
ceremony.
He also said that funds for the Award ceremony was found through
sponsors and there is no financial implications for the SLPA. The main
sponsor for the event is Coca Cola Beverages Ltd.
The guests of honour on this day will be Sports Minister Mahindananda
Aluthgamage, Foreign Employment and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera. |
