He said there has been a revival of tourism in Sri Lanka after the ending of the war and over 100,000 Britons had visited the country during the last year. Rankin said the Government had given priority for the development of infrastructure, agriculture and industries in the North and this was visible during his recent visit to the North.

He said a group of investors from Northern Ireland would visit Sri Lanka shortly to seek investment opportunities in the country. Britain will help Sri Lanka in achieving its development targets.

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said Sri Lanka has started a new journey after ending the 30 year war. The development program launched by it, specially in the North, was visible to anyone visiting the area.

He said it was timely to further strengthen the national friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He said Sri Lanka was ready to provide all facilities for foreign investors.

Prime Minister's Secretary S Amarasekera was also present.
