National Mosquito Control Week:
Over 5,267 mosquito breeding places identified

Health Ministry officials who checked over 9,234 places under the
mosquito control week program yesterday, identified over 5,267 mosquito
breeding places. Another 840 places were identified as larvae breeding
areas while 320 people were also warned, the Health Ministry sources
said.
The Health Ministry launched the mosquito control week with effect
from yesterday to control diseases spread by mosquitoes in seven days.
Mosquito breeding areas will be identified through public awareness
campaigns this week while preventive methods will be taken to stop
diseases from spreading.
The program was initiated on the instruction of Health Minister
Maithripala Sirisena.
The first day was dedicated to identifing mosquito breeding areas in
Government and private institutions. Around 320 people were warned and
legal action will be taken against them if they fail to follow the
guidelines. Notices were issued to them urging to take steps to clean
their surroundings.
If they fail to clean the area within two weeks, legal action will be
taken against them, a Health Ministry official said. All schools will be
examined today under this program. The police and the army are
supporting the Health Ministry to launch this program. |
