Karzai seeks NATO operations end
Afghanistan: Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai requested NATO
high-command to end military operations in the country because of the
daily increase in civilian deaths. According to local news agency
Pajhwok, Karzai asked NATO forces to aim at rebel shelters in tribal
areas in Pakistan rather than at Afghan people.
In a speech in eastern Kunar province, where NATO ally International
Security and Assistance Force is accused of killing dozens of civilians,
Karzai said that the Afghan people are dismayed because of the unfair
victims of the armed conflict.
We have the right to protest against the killing of civilians, said
Karzai as he wished this war would end.
He also revealed today that he never responded to apologies offered
by ISAF Chief David Petraus or US President Barack Obama in the wake of
the bombing of March 1st that claimed the lives of nine children who
were collecting firewood in Nanglam village, in eastern Afghanistan.
Year 2010 was the most violent for the Afghan civilian population
since occupation troops arrived to the nation, with 2,777 people killed,
an increase of 15 percent against 2009, according to UN official
figures. Kabul, Sunday, Prensa Latina |
