Sebastianites in six-wicket win

St Sebastian’s College beat Prince of Wales’ College by six wickets in their 26th limited overs cricket match worked off at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa yesterday.

Cambrians batting first scored 287 for 9 in their alloted 50 overs. Shehan Jayasuriya hit up a magnificent 143 and was associated in a 4th wicket partnership of 212 runs with Kusal Mendis who scored 82 runs. Shehan passed the previous highest score of 116 set by two Cambrians Sahan Wijeratne and Dilan Chandima and this partnership is a record for any wicket in the series. Vishva Fernando bagged 4 for 54.

In reply Sebs scored the required runs for the loss of four wickets with three overs to spare with skipper Sanitha de Mel unbeaten on 107 and Oshada Fernando unbeaten on 72 and being associated in an unbroken fifth wicket stand of 199 runs.

Chief scores:

Prince of Wales 287 for 9 in 50 overs (Shehan Jayasuriya 143, Kusal Mendis 82, Vishva Fernando 4 for 54).

St Sebastian’s 288 for 4 in 46.4 overs (Sanitha de Mel 107 n.o., Oshada Fernando 72 n.o., Marlon Fernando 48, Deshan Dias 24, Sahan Adeesha 2 for 43).
