The police said yesterday that they had uncovered information that
could lead them to the mastermind behind the attack on E-news. The
police said that the main suspect behind the E-news attack ‘Boothaya’
and his assistant ‘Susa’ had been issued with death threats to tell
Court that their confessions made to the police are false.
The police said that complaints were made to Wellampitiya and
Talangama police stations that the threats were made by telephone calls
as well as by going to the houses of the suspects and their relatives.
They have requested police security due to these incidents. Sudath
Jayalath who was the brother of ‘Boothaya’ was attacked last Friday
while walking on the road by an unidentified motorcyclist with a covered
number plate.
He had pointed a rifle at him and had asked to convey to ‘Boothaya’
to tell court that his confession made to the police is incorrect.
He had also promised to give Rs 500,000 to the family members and to
support ‘Boothaya’ to go abroad if this was done. The police had
initiated a separate investigation on the threats faced by suspects
connected to E-news attack. By following these investigations the police
hopes to capture the mastermind behind these incidents soon.
