Sri Lanka’s Malay Community has produced in the past some of the greatest patriots in the country. Dr T B Jayah and Justice M T Akbar have played very significant roles in the fight for the country’s independence and gave prestigious position for the community, Parliamentarian A H M Azwer said.

Azwer made these observations while addressing Pradeshiya Sabha propaganda meetings at the Bolona Malay Colony, Kirinda, 8th Colony, Lunugamvehera, Tangalle and Nalagama. Sheikh Mujibur, Co-ordinating Secretary to MP Namal Rajapaksa presided.

He said then came the era of Senator M D Kitchilan, M P Drahman MP., M Zahier Lye MP, and M H Amit, MP, with their progress policies led the Malays for them to gain their proper position the body politics of the country.

Azwer said people of Hambantota were most privileged for they have produced a hero of world recognition in President Mahinda Rajapaksa on whom world leaders have placed their trust and were amazed to learn how he so successfully eradicated terrorism from the country and then taking the country in a remarkable recovery as seldom seen in any part of the world.

Hambantota will soon enter the Guiness Book of World Records for being so speedily transformed into one of the most advanced places of human habitation, he said.

It would be therefore be so comfortable for the people of the Hambantota district to vote enthusiastically for the United Peoples’ Freedom Alliance candidates stamping a successive 18th defeat to the UNP in Sri Lanka’s election history.
