Trained nurses for Kuwait

A team of 30 trained nurses will be dispatched to Kuwait as the first group according to a request made by the Kuwait Government to send 250 trained nurses, Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.

This group is specially trained to work in operating theaters, intensive care units, accident wards and paediatric units. The Kuwaiti Government had agreed to provide all facilities including high remunerations during the two-year service period. The Government hopes to send several more groups to Kuwait. Addressing a ceremony at the Ministry premises he said this move will help earn foreign exchange by guiding the country's trained labour to foreign employment. Appointment letters were also granted for 17 selected persons for posts of Principals in Nursing Colleges at this occasion.

About 1.8 million Sri Lankans are engaged in foreign service at present.
