SLPA Chairman meets German Minister
More collaboration between Hamburg, Colombo:
A German delegation headed by Germany, Hamburg City, Economic Affairs
and Labour State Minister (Senator) Ian Kiru Karan visited Sri Lanka
Ports Authority (SLPA) recently and had discussions with SLPA Chairman
Dr Priyath B Wickrama, on extending assistance and support regarding
working in closer coordination in port activities. The Senator expressed
strong faith to bring more collaboration to thorough port related
activities between Hamburg and Colombo.
Ian Kiru Karan, born in 1939, in Point Pedro in Sri Lanka currently
holds British and German nationality. At present, he bears the
memberships in the Board of the Hamburg Port Authority, Board of the
Hamburg Football Association, Board of the Society for Promotion of the
Cardiac Centre of the University Hospital and also is the Board of the
Society for the Promotion of the Hamburg School of Business
Administration Chairman. He is a highly active philanthropist in the
field of arts, music, sports and youth projects in the city of Hamburg.
Following the discussions with SLPA Chairman Dr Priyath B Wickrama,
Karan also made an exclusive inspection visit at the rapidly growing
Colombo Port Expansion Project. The constructions of the breakwater of
the CPEP is on schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of
this year. Following the terminal building thereafter, it will be
operational by early 2013. |
