Scam at Railway shed :

Two nabbed

Mount Lavinia Police bared a massive scam running into millions of rupees when a couple involved in robbing spare parts from the Ratmalana Railway shed were arrested early yesterday.

According to the Crime Division of the Mount Lavinia police, the couple had been involved in robbing automatic brake pads from the Ratmalana Railway shed for some time. The Police recovered several brake pads from their possession. A brake pad is valued at Rs 2.3 million.

Police sources said the couple is being interrogated to ascertain how they robbed the brake pads from the Ratmalana Railway shed and whether they obtained support from the Railway employees to carry out this robbery.

Police commenced investigation into this robbery on a complaint made by the Ratmalana Railway shed superintendent two days ago.

A special police team led by Mount Lavinia Police Crime OIC, SI Thissa Sugathapala is conducting further investigations.
