Kidney unit doctors end boycott

Doctors attached to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital's Kidney Unit decided to end their boycott of duties and return to work from 2 pm yesterday.

This follows talks NCP Chief Minister Brety Premalal Dissanayake had with representatives of the GMOA's Anuradhapura Branch and the Public Service United Nurses Union yesterday.

Doctors attached to the unit boycotted duties from Wednesday to protest against a missing officer on alleged misconduct charges reporting back to work on that day.

Earlier this particular nursing officer was transferred to another unit by the hospital director as the Director General of Health Services has already started an investigation regarding the charges of misconduct against him.

The officer had once again reported back to the Kidney Unit on Tuesday on a letter issued by the Director General of Health Services. Hospital Director W. M. T. B. Wijekoon said the nursing officer had reported back to work at the Kidney Unit without his knowledge.
