Electricity for all by 2012:

Over 536 houses to receive electricity

The Ceylon Electricity Board acting in accordance with Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawake's policy of 'Electricity for all by 2012' has taken steps to provide electricity to 536 houses lacking this facility in Kesbewa, Maharagama, Avissawella, Kaduwela and Homagama electorates.

Work on 84 extensions schemes have already been completed under this program said a press release by the Power and Energy Ministry yesterday.

The release said there are 55,000 houses lacking electricity facilities in the Colombo district and the Minister's intention is to provide all these houses with electricity.

The ministry has already spent Rs 74.6 million on this project covering 536 houses and it hoped to commission the new electricity schemes soon.
