World Water Day March 22:
Six water supply projects to be launched

The Water Supply and Drainage Board will launch six water supply
projects in the first week of March to mark World Water Day which falls
on March 22, a Ministry spokesman said.
These water supply projects are for Aranayake, Mawanella-Weganthale,
two water supply projects in Hambantota and Ambalangoda.
The Aranayake Water Supply Project will provide water for 39,456
families. This project was undertaken at a cost of Rs 187 million, the
spokesman said.
The Mawanella-Weganthale Water Supply Project will supply water to
Ukuwana, Weganthalaya, Gondiwela, Ilukgoda and Danagama. It cost Rs 600
million.
The Water Supply Project of Habaraduwa-Bonistakanda commenced
recently.
The project costs Rs 570 million. About 1,500 families are provided
water from the project.
The Kirindi-Oya Water Supply Project was constructed with funds from
the Austrian government. Around 50,000 people in Lunugamvehera,
Weeravila and Beralihela areas are provided water under this project.
The Ambalantota-Hambantota Water Supply Project which can provide
water to around 133,000 in the Hambantota area was opened.
This project was implemented with funds from the Asian Development
Bank and the Sri Lankan Government.
All these projects will cost around Rs 2,000 million, the spokesman
added. |
