Disaster Management Deputy Minister Dulip Wijesekera said a UPFA
victory in Biyagama was assured.
Addressing a press briefing at the Disaster Management Ministry
auditorium yesterday, he said the Biyagama Local Government Authority
had been under the UNP for nine years.
“Not a single development and welfare project was carried out,” he
said. Wijesekera pointed out that the reason for the UPFA to lose the
last Local Government election was due to the opportunity not being
given for prominent UPFAers to contest.
He said at this election the support of the Muslim community in the
area was sure since Rauf Hakeem’s party too was contesting with them.
The Deputy Minister said that all development that has taken place in
the area was under the guidance of Economic Development Minister Basil
Rajapaksa.
Under the development projects Gama Neguma and Maga Neguma, the area
has gained a lot, Wijesekera said.
”Maternity and child health clinics are being developed and
established through the efforts of Pushpa Rajapaksa. Eighty percent of
the barren paddy land are being re-cultivated,” he added.
Wijesekera said that except for one, all the roads in the electorate
have been carpeted.
He pointed out that every village in the electorate have been
developed spending Rs 2 million on each. |
