Mother Sri Lanka launches Buds of Patriotism

The Mother Sri Lanka Trust together with the Children's Secretariat of the Child Development and Women's Affairs Ministry launched a pre-school program named 'Buds of Patriotism' yesterday aiming to build a patriotic future generation of Sri Lanka.

Its Chairman Janaki Kurruppu said Early Childhood Care Development Officers who are working under the Ministry have been educated on the implementation of the pre-school program yesterday .Activities will be implemented in each pre-school by the teachers under the guidance of Early Childhood Care Development Officers and Child Rights Promotion Officers at district level.

The pre-school program will consist four special activities which will be carried out in every pre-school registered under the Ministry. The program is expecting to reach nearly 600,000 students belonging to 17,000 pre-schools.

The Buds of Patriotism program will teach children to respect National Anthem and National Flag and practicing cleanliness, appreciate local produce and living in peace and harmony. The Mother Sri Lanka is a movement working towards bringing together diverse perspectives under one umbrella to develop positive thinking on Sri Lanka.

The Movement was launched in 2008 and so far has carried out many programs to reach its goal. Mother Sri Lanka School Program - one of the major components of the movement was successfully completed in last June at an event in the presence of President Mahinda Rajapaksa with the participation of three million schoolchildren.

Child Development and Women's Affairs Minister Tissa Karalliyadda too participated.
