Fisheries industry gets boost
Four tinned fish factories:

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry will
establish four tinned fish manufacturing factories, said Minister Dr
Rajitha Senaratne.

The Government spends Rs 15 million to import tinned fish products
annually, the Minister added.
Minister Senaratne was expressing these facts participating at
Fisheries Corporation's fish stalls opening ceremonies at Kuruwita and
Embilipitiya recently.
The Fisheries Corporation has opened 79 fish stalls and will
establish 250 fish stalls islandwide, the Minister stated.
The Fisheries Ministry will import 400 fishing vessels.
The Fisheries Corporation will get 1,000 vessels at the end of next
year.
It will help increase fish production in the country, he added.
The Fisheries Ministry introduced several ways to protect the
freshness of fish.
He said the fisheries industry helps develop country while earning Rs
1,400 million. The Fisheries Corporation decides fish price.
It helps provide fish at low price, he added. Ceylon Fisheries
Corporation Chairman Maheel Senaratne, Vice Chairman D J U Purasinghe
and Managing Director Ruwan Lankeshwara also participated. |
