Steel pipe theft at DEC

Police officials attached to the Police Post at the Dedicated Economic Center (DEC) Ratmalana arrested several men for stealing steel pipes from a building at the Ratmalana DEC.

Following a complaint made by Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando to the OIC of the Police Post, the suspects were arrested after an investigation. It was revealed that a stock of steel pipes brought by the Ministry to repair the Ratmalana DEC were stolen by the suspects.

The Minister stressed that he will not allow any robbery or illegal activity take place within any DEC premises across the country. Minister Fernando said that stern action will be taken against those who are proved guilty.

He said that the DECs were set up in the country to provide relief to farmers, traders and consumers and not any individual or group.
