Nine dead in Pakistan hit on NATO tankers
At least nine people have been killed in
Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar as gunmen destroyed 16 NATO
tankers transporting fuel to US-led forces in Afghanistan. Officials
said that unidentified armed militants attacked two NATO terminals
at Ring Road area in Peshawar late Thursday night, killing eight
people and injuring two others, a Press TV correspondent reported on
Friday.

Al-Qaeda calls for new attacks
In a message released Thursday, Al-Qaeda number
two Ayman al-Zawahiri encouraged extremists everywhere to dream up
new ways to attack the West, as the September 11 bombers did nearly
10 years ago, The 35-minute message — a video containing only a
still picture of Zawahiri in which he can be heard delivering a
speech — was the second in a series titled “A Message of Hope and
Glad Tidings to the People of Egypt.” It was produced by Al-Qaeda’s
media arm, as-Sahab.

Exhausted rescuers feel quake’s emotional toll
Devastated rescue workers had to be dragged away
from the wreckage of Christchurch’s CTV building, unable to stop
thinking of the entombed earthquake victims they were leaving
behind. “It’s not a matter of just walking away from a worksite,
they were touching bodies,” said police commander Dave Cliff,
describing how searchers refused to leave the fire-scarred site on
Wednesday night, 24 hours after the tremor.
