FBI sued over alleged spying
IRAN: A leading US Muslim organization has filed a class
action lawsuit against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for
allegedly spying on local mosques in America.
The lawsuit, filed in a California court by American Civil Liberties
Union (ACLU) and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR),
accused the FBI and its seven employees of violating the first amendment
rights of hundreds of Muslims. On behalf of three Muslim plaintiffs,
CAIR and ACLU charge that the FBI informants infiltrate, monitor and
record conversations in several California mosques in an attempt to root
out “potential terrorists.” “The FBI should be spending its time and
resources investigating actual threats, not spying on every American who
happens to worship at a mosque,’’ said a staff attorney for the ACLU.
