Christchurch in New Zealand, damaging some buildings, streets and
water mains across the southern city. The hit was five kilometers
from the city at a depth of four kilometers.

Philippine volcano erupts:
Thousands flee
Thousands of people in the Philippines fled
their homes as a volcano erupted on Monday, sending a spectacular
column of ash high into the sky, residents said. The eruption of
Bulusan, a 1,559-metre volcano, turned mid-morning into night for
about 20 minutes across largely farming areas around its slopes,
regional army spokesman Major Harold Cabunoc told AFP.

ASEAN discuss Thai-Cambodia conflict
Southeast Asian Foreign Ministers will discuss a
deadly border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand when they meet
in Jakarta later Tuesday, officials said. But with Thailand
steadfastly rejecting any outside mediation it is unclear what the
other eight ministers from the 10-member Association of Southeast
Asian Nations (ASEAN) can do to end the row.
