UN Chief calls Gaddafi
UN: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon talked by telephone with Muammar
Gaddafi about the situation in that Arab country.
In the exchange of ideas, the head of the world organization
expressed his concern at the escalation of violence in Libya and called
for respect of fundamental freedoms and human rights, including
gathering and information.
According to a press release from the UN official spokesman Martin
Nesirky, Ban Ki-moon expressed to Gaddafi the need to ensure the
protection of civilians in all circumstances.
Earlier, the UN official spoke to Bahrain King Hamad bin Isa Al
Khalifa, the leaders of the new Egyptian Government and Arab League
Secretary General Amr Musa about the wave of riots that shake the Arab
world.
He also spoke with the European Union Foreign Affairs representative
Catherine Ashton and the head of US diplomacy, Hillary Clinton. United
