Lyceum sweep medals board

“I hope many of the athletes who participated today will make Sri
Lanka proud one day,” said Mrs Kumari Grero, Directress of Lyceum
International Schools as she brought the three day International Schools
Athletics meet to a close yesterday at the Sugathadasa stadium. Twenty
five new records were established at the 3 day meet amidst ‘a palpable
competition’.
The pomp pageantry and carnival atmosphere that prevailed at the
Sugathadasa for three days was amazing, as the Lyceum Kandyan dancers
performed a well-co-ordinated and very colourful dance for chief guest
Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Guest of Honour Olympian Sriyani Kulawansa
during the closing ceremony.
Salma Badri, Shehan Wisanperuma, Amasha Polkotuwa, Nirma Sandarathne,
Vihanga Wijesinghe, Mohamed Farried, Shihan Rodrigo, Wiyath Anthony -
all from Lyceum International School, Wattala were their age group
champions.
The others were under 9 boys champion from Leeds - Senitha
Hettiarachchi, under 11 girls champions - Binadi Diddeniya from Lyceum
Nugegoda, Maleeka Hassan from Gateway College, Maryam Fauz from CIS,
Gayara Ratanabarana and Ramith Samayamanthri from Asian International
School and Anne Soysa, Nadeeshani Henderson, Chamatka Kavindra, Anjani
Pulawansa and Sajeed Jainullbdeen of Gateway College.
Best Female athlete of the meet was Nirma Sandaratne of Lyceum
International School, Wattala for her performance of 25.91 secs (new
meet record) in the Under 17 girls 200m event. The best male athlete was
Sajith Sathsara of Gateway College Colombo for his performance of 22.75
seconds in the Under 19 Boys 200m event.
This year, Lyceum, Wattala - the defending champions won the meet
again with 994 points from 130 athletic events. Gateway Colombo were
runners up with 834 points. |
