Dashing opener Shehan Fernando hammered a sparkling 87 to put St. Peter’s College in command on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which commenced at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

DSS make good total

Fourteen year old Sithara Gimhana hit a top score of 93 to help Richmond College Galle reach a healthy 212 runs in their first innings on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against Nalanda College which commenced at Kadirana yesterday.

Dharmapala MV were well placed at 143 for 3 in reply to Revata MMV’s first innings total of 141 runs on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which commenced at Pannipitiya yesterday. C Pramod took seven wickets for 55.

Trinity, POW a draw

Trinity College, Kandy with eight outright victories under their belt has to be satisfied with a first innings win over Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa in their inter-school Under-19 cricket match.

Cambrians taking the first lease were bowled out for 124 runs with Janishka Premasinghe claiming 5 for 39 and in reply Trinitians declared at 239 for 7 with Janishka Premasinghe excelled with the bat with 51 runs and two half centuries from Niroshan Dickwella 62 and Heshan Warnniarachchi 58 runs. Tarindu Dilshan was the pick of the bowlers for Cambrians with 5 for 103.

In their second essay Cambrians bounced back and but bad light stopped play at 4.50pm they, were 209 for 5 with Sri Lanka schools all rounder Shehan Jayasuriya scoring 93 runs.

Prince of Wales: 124 (Tarindu Dilshan 29, Janishka Premasinghe 5/39, Amila Anaz 2/14) and 209/5 (Shehan Jayasuriya 93, Ashen Mendis 25, Chamila Fernando 25).

Sylvester’s make 200

St Sylvester’s College scored 200 all out on the first day of their inter-school cricket match against Dharmaraja College which began at Lake View Ground, Kandy yesterday. The Rajans in reply had made 65 for 3. The match will be continued today at 9.3am.

St Sylvester’s: 200 all out in 72.3 overs (Menaka Nanayakkara 24, Ruwantha Ekanayake 40, Sumedha Dissanayake 19, Waruna Wijesinghe 12, Dineth Lanka 3 for 44, Sasanka Nakkawita 2 for 17).

Dharmaraja: 65 for 3 in 18 overs (Sandun Weerakkody 41 n.o).
