Deserters nabbed for theft

Two army deserters allegedly involved in a series of jewellery thefts in Akuressa, Kamburupitiya, Dikwella, Gandara, Thihagoda, Matara and other areas in the Matara district were nabbed at Wathukolakanda in Kirinda by Thihagoda police.

The two suspects have confessed that jewellery including gold chains stolen by them were pawned at jewellery shops in Galle, the police said.

Thihagoda police are investigating.
