Thailand’s Department of Fine Arts has donated 11 Buddha statues to
be exhibited at the Thai Gallery of the proposed International Buddhist
Museum in the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.
These statues represent different styles of different periods. One
such statue is the Buddha in a walking posture. Sri Lanka Ambassador
Prof J B Disanayaka told the Daily News that types of statues were not
found in Sri Lanka. The proposed Gallery would help promote better
relations between the two Theravada Buddhist countries in the world, he
said.
The statues were handed over to Sri Lanka Ambassador Prof J B
Disanayaka by the Fine Arts Department Deputy Director-General Karun
Sutthipool in the presence of National Museum’s Fine Arts Department
Director Anan Chuchoti and the National Museum’s Senior Researcher Dr
Amara Srisuchat.
The Fine Arts Department’s Deputy Director-General Karun Sutthipool
said that the historical event would mark an important relationship
between Sri Lanka and Thailand. |
