Neethiya 20th edition:

Continue publishing for next 20 years - CJ

How to purchase

Neethiya is available for sale at the office of Neethiya Foundation (2862233), Office of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka and at the Law College bookshop.

Chief Justice Asoka de Silva receiving the first copy of Neethiya, 20th edition, the only Law Journal to be published uninterrupted for the last 20 years in Sinhala, told the Neethiya editorial staff led by President’s Counsel Upali Gooneratne to continue the work for the next 20 years to assist the legal profession.

The ceremony was held at the Chief Justice’s Chambers yesterday afternoon with the participation of President’s Counsel Upali Gooneratne, Attorneys Mahesh Wagista, Aruni Kanchana Gooneratne, Damith Ranjeewa and Charani Kariyawasam and law students Chameera Rodrigo and Rasika Madhumali.

President’s Counsel Gooneratne told the Chief Justice that Neethiya commenced in 1990 as a Newsletter and its inaugural issue was launched by the then Chief Justice Parinda Ranasinghe.

It was thereafter up-graded to a fully-fledged Law Journal with its 10th anniversary issue in 2000. Due to the dearth of legal publications in Sinhala, Neethiya has been in demand among the legal community, including practitioners, academics, judges, law students and law enforcement officers as well as others interested in the law, said President’s Counsel Gooneratne.

The present volume too is enriched with articles on a variety of topics on law written by specialists, well prepared notes on recent Court decisions, legal news, tables of cases and other contents. Its total expenses have been met solely by its Patron President’s Counsel Upali Gooneratne.
