LG polls on March 17

Several lists rejected:

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake yesterday announced that the Local Government election would be held on March 17 to elect 3,931 members for 301 Local Government bodies islandwide.

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne has appealed to the United National Party to extend their co-operation to hold the Local Government Elections on a peaceful manner as the Government was fully determined to ensure peace and harmony during the election days to ensure a peaceful election.
