Court staff help restore case records

Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate's Court Staff are engaged in restoring and reviving a large number of case records under the guidance of Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Dharsika Wimalasiri.

A fire broke out at the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate's Court on January 24. It is learnt from Magistrate's Court sources that 70 to 75 percent of the case records are intact or slightly damaged. North Central Province DIG Kithsiri Dayananda said police investigations have been intensified and an analyst report is expected within a few days. The daily proceedings of the Chief Magistrate's Courts which were interrupted due to the fire will be back to normal from next Monday.

The Medawachchiya and Kahatagasdigiliya Circuit Courts will also function from Monday. The cases destroyed would be re-arranged with the help of eight police stations coming under the jurisdictions of the Chief Magistrate's Court. The Kahatagasdigiliya, Mihintale, Mahawilachchiya, Medawachchiya, Hindogama, Thirappane, Tantirimale and Anuradhapura police stations will use the files and records available to them. Investigations are continuing by a special team of police officers headed by Anuradhapura HGI Gamini Jayasinghe under the supervision of DIG Kithsiri Dayananda.
