Regaining ‘A’ Division League Title is CR’s main ambition

The main ambition of the Ceylonese Rugby and Football Club this year
is to clinch the ‘A’ Division League Rugby Title which has eluded the
club since 1998.
The newly elected President of the Club Rienzie Fernando said that it
could be achieved if the players could give of their best in the 2011
rugby season.
He said that the club will field a strong outfit this year under the
able leadership of Dushanth Lewke and with Australian Grant Dwyer to
guide them this year they are confident of ending the 13 year wait by
bagging the League Title, having ended up second best for the last seven
years.
Fernando an outstanding lock forward turned out for S Thomas’ in 1975
and 1976 along with players like Michael Jayasekera, P L Munasinghe,
Shane Pinder, Theodore Thambipillai, Stefan D Silva, Pat Jecobs and
Darup Peiris.
He joined CR and FC in 1978 and turned out for the Red Shirts till
1982 with players of the calibre of Chula Dharmadasa, Ransiri Sahabandu,
Noel Vanlangenberg, Michael Mathysz, C P Abeygunawardena, Iqbal Musafer,
Rohantha Peiris, S Sukumar, Zubair Doray and Wimal Epparachchi.
Former Thomian and CR prop forward Gerald de Seram was elected-Deputy
President at the AGM held on Sunday while, ex-Thomian, CR and Sri Lanka
centre Christopher Jordashe is the Vice President with Shantha
Kurumbalapitiya remaining as Secretary for another year. |
