Sarkozy to lay out G20 goals
President Nicolas Sarkozy will spell out his
plans for reforming the international monetary system and curbing
volatility in food and fuel prices Monday in a keynote speech on
France’s year-long G20 Presidency. The address, billed as the
official launch of his ambitious agenda, will present the findings
of whirlwind consultations with G20 leaders including US President
Barack Obama and China’s Hu Jintao on the three key areas of
France’s presidency.

Mexico arrests Acapulco hitmen
Mexican federal police have arrested seven drug
gang members in the Pacific port of Acapulco, including the man
behind the murders of 22 people in the resort this month, the
government said on Sunday.

West Sahara talks end
Little progress has been made as the latest
round of the United Nations-sponsored informal talks on West Sahara
concluded Sunday in New York’s Long Island. The proposals from two
parties of the talks (Morocco and the Frente Polisario) were raised
again, but “by the end of the meeting, each party continues to
reject the proposal of the other as a sole basis for future
negotiations,” according to a communique issued by Christopher Ross,
personal envoy of the UN secretary-general for Western Sahara, after
the three-day meeting at Greetree, Long Island.
