Air Force Cycle tour:
Hemantha Kumara in the lead

The second stage of the “Guwan Hamuda Papedi Savariya” Air Force
Cycle tour ended in Kandy with Sri Lanka Navy’s Hemantha Kumara
finishing first. He was followed by Suharis Premachandra (Dehiwala Mount
Lavinia MC) and Sudeera Nilanga Sri Lanka Police.
The race commenced from Hingurakgoda at 8.30 am with 76 competitors
facing the starters orders. First stage winner Dinesh Dhanushka wearing
the “Yellow Jersey”. It was a flying start and all riders were in a
bunch till they reached Hambarana.
He two riders Jeewan Jayasinghe and Sri Laka Army’s Gayan Kumara
broke of from the main bunch and proceeded along to gain a lead of
nearly a kilometre. The bunch that followed kept an moving faster and
joined the front riders. While the days winner Hemanthe Kumara, Sisira
Gelamurutha and Buddhika Warnakulasuriya were the runners up in the
“Hill Climb”.
The third stage of the tour will commence today from Kandy at 8.30
and finish opposite Air Force Headquarters around 1 pm. Yesterday the
race was flagged of by Base Commander of the Ningurakgoda Base Group
captain Clyde Weerakoon.
