Senior nationals hockey in progress

The 54th Senior nationals Hockey Championships started at the CH & FC grounds yesterday. The grand opening ceremony was graced by the chief guest Sri Lanka Hockey development Program Chairman Upali Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka Hockey officials and the participating teams. The tournament will continue till January 23 at the CH & FC and Sirimavo Bandaranaike College ground.

Entries from 14 men’s teams and seven women’s teams listed for the draw. The men’s category matches will be continued at the CH & FC grounds and the women’s matches will be held at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike College ground from today.

The men’s matches are scheduled under four groups, namely MA, MB, MC ans MD.

Defence services team had an easy win over Sri Lanka Schools team in the opening match scoring 7-0 and got to the top of the MC group on the opening day. The half time scores were 3-0.
