Soldier, trishaw driver thwart suicide attempt

A soldier and a three-wheeler driver saved the lives of a couple who attempted to commit suicide on Poya day by jumping into the Mahaweli River from the Tennekumbura Bridge, Kandy.

Investigations revealed that the couple attempted suicide following a dispute over telephone calls.

Balagolla police OIC Chief Police Inspector H M S Premachandra summoned the couple’s parents and handed over them to the parents after warning the duo.
