Seeking sunshine and warmth

Clement is a guy as far as I know loves his job to bits talking to him, its about music this and music that and on and on. He has achieved a lot in his 12 year Dj career. Beginning with welcoming the millennium at Browns Beach Hotel, Negombo, he has climbed the ladder Sunset Night Club, Lords, Club Farm Bay and was the first Sri Lankan to enter the Ministry of Sounds DJ Academy in UK and particiaper in the DJ Expo exhibition held at Atlantic City, New Jersey (USA).

Ready to party

Q: Who is Clement Curt Perera?
A
: Who am I? I am just an ordinary Sri Lankan like everybody else, born in Colombo on February 20 to George Stephen and Cansida Rose Perera.

Q: Right now what are you doing? Working or just lazing around?
A:
Hmm...now, right now, away from Sri Lanka Djing for those people who are seeking sunshine and warmth in the Maldivian beaches away from the snowy countries of Europe and America. I Dj to warm them up and to keep them moving. Has no time to celebrate Christmas or New Year with my family.

Q: How did you come to be a DJ?
A:
As for this question I did not become one. I was born as one! It's in me - I did not make it. While schooling itself I found myself as Dj playing for the small family gigs and parties.

Q: Have you always wanted to be a DJ or did it happen by chance?

At the DJ Expo exhibition

A:
No it did not happen by chance. As I grew up I found myself to be a DJ. It also comes from my family background. My dad George Perera who is an electronic engineer couldn't bring to reality his dream of Djing but kept his desire and now it is made a reality through my brother and me. It's my dad who is really proud of our Djing.

Q: What kind of music do you play?
A
: To answer this question its tough. The music that I want to play is not what I do play. It depends on the crowd first of all and what the occasion demands. It's also mostly depending on the culture and country of the people and also the age group.

Q: How does crowd gather around you?
A
: I think it's the magnetic feel that I have around me that automatically gathers the crowd around me. I see how the music touches the hearts of people and how it changes moods and as they come closer.

Q: Working abroad how has it been?
A:
Its been a joy being abroad. It has also made me grow and find the right way of djing. The experience abroad has really made me what I am.

Q: Who is your idol?
A: As for this, I do not want to name anyone to be frank, but I do like the styles of some certain DJs. "I listen to many but never copy any". I have my own way of combining different music to the needs of the crowd.

Q: In your years did anything happen that changed the way you think about life?
A
: Answer to this is YES. Life has taught me many lessons. Every experience of whether good or bad has had an influence on me. Even losing something valuable in life, has had positive effect on me. I was able to venture my path in a much better manner.

Clement Curt Perera

A
: Why talk about a second chance I have not had a chance of failure as such. Anything that happens is a stepping stone towards more success. So why think of a second chance.

A
: I am a friend to anyone who come my way. I never let anyone down. I let them fly high. I do help my friends to come out of the country, so they can grow and develop in a better way and give a chance to go ahead in life. There are at least five friends of mine who have found their nest abroad.

Q: Anything you like to add to this?
A
: I do take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped me to grow and be where I am today. Specially my thanks go to my parents, friends, colleagues and fans. A very special thanks to Gerrad Joseph Deva, who helped me to go abroad. I thank all the Djs in the music industry whose deejaying helped my path to the heights.
