President to Selectors:
Choose the best for World Cup
It is the responsibility of the Cricket Selection Committee to select
the best available fifteen players for the forthcoming World Cup to be
staged in the sub-continent said President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday.
He said this when he met the Officials of the Interim Committee for
Cricket at the President’s House.
The dream of all Lankans is to win the World Cup for a second time
with this in mind it is the duty of every one keep the mentality of our
cricketers in good shape. The Selection Committee should not included
players to fulfill others personal agendas. It is the duty of the
Committee to see to the matter as the most important factor when
selecting the final 15 players, said the President. Answering a question
posed by the President to Chairman of the Interim Committee for Cricket
DS de Silva said that action will be taken to hand over the ground at
Hambantota, Pallekele and Premadasa stadium to the ICC on the schedule
date January 15.
The President also noted that suitable action should be taken
maintain these grounds after the World Cup.
De Silva said that the green light has been given to conduct the 2012
T/20 World Cup in Sri Lanka. Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage,
Secretary to the Sports Ministry Udaya Seneviratne and Secretary SLC
Interim committee Nishantha Ranatunge too attended the meeting. |
