Four million TEUs:
A record in port history
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) recorded four million TEUs for
the first time in port history, Chairman Dr Priyath B Wickrama said.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of commencing the
activities of SLPA in the new year on January 3 at its Chaithya
premises. Port and Highways Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardhane
said that a key role has been vested upon SLPA in the process of making
Sri Lanka the Marvel of Asia.
"The dedicated performance of all sectors of SLPA brought successful
achievements in the past year," he said.
"The President has successfully defeated terrorism and has expedited
the development process along the paths of peace and independence. It is
the utmost responsibility of all staff and employees of the SLPA to work
towards the future economic development with an enhanced team spirit,"
Dr Wickrama said. He stressed the point that there existed a key
responsibility for SLPA to perform a pioneering task.
