Court warns mother, son

Panadura High Court Judge Ranga Dissanayake warned two accused,
mother and son, who were produced before court on a charge of abusing
and threatening a lawyer practising in the Panadura District Court.
The two accused had lost their case and had abused the lawyers who
had appeared against them. A lawyer complained to the police. The two
accused were arrested and produced before the Panadura Magistrate and
remanded.
Senior Attorney Upali Senaratne who appeared for the two accused,
tendered an unconditional apology and requested all Bar members who
appeared for the complainant Lawyer to show mercy as the mother and the
son are suffering from terminal illness.
After submissions by Senior Defence Counsel Senaratne and the other
Lawyers who appeared for the complainant lawyer, the Judge severely
warned the two accused and released them on surety bail.
The case was referred to the Mediation Board.
Senior Attorney Upali Senaratne with Nayoma Niroshika appeared for
the two accused.
