Over 1.2 m calls made to 1919

The 1919 Government Information Centre received over 1.2 million
calls last year. The centre received 1,218,011 calls in 2010. According
to the call analysis reports 1,131,867 of queries were made in Sinhala
and 46,463 calls in Tamil. Out of the telephone calls 39,681 were in
English. The 1919 call centre which is operational 24 hours receives
over 2,500 calls daily in three languages.
The Government Information Centre (GIC) was created by the
Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in
collaboration with the Presidential Secretariat. Public will be able to
get information about Government institutions through its website.
The GIC "1919" service hopes to provide more information about
Government institutions and their services this year, spokesman said.
