Those involved in crimes should be punished - Minister

Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda yesterday said all those involved in crimes in Jaffna should be brought before the law irrespective of their positions.

Making a special statement in Parliament, Minister Devananda said that the crime rate has increased in Jaffna and a fear psychosis prevails in the area.

He added that the number of abductions, killings and cases of looting have increased and those criminals should be punished by law.

Minister Devananda further said there is no war and blood shedding in Jaffna today.

People strongly believe that Jaffna would never go back to that dark era. The Minister stated that he was not making this statement to embarrass the Government.
