Planting Bamboo shoots to stop soil erosion:

Five thousand bamboo shoots will be distributed among farmers who come under the purview of Attikka Amuna project for planting to prevent soil erosion, said the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva at Negigamwila after unveiling a plaque to mark the laying of foundation for the Attikka Amuna construction project.

He said that these bamboo plants when grown up will protect and conserve the either sides of the Kirindioya and there will not be any soil erosion.

He said that there is an acute shortage of irrigation engineers and technical officers in the Department of Irrigation as such swift functioning of the irrigation activities experience lot of shortcomings.

He said that a colossal sum has been allocated for the Ministry and the Department of Irrigation to carry out construction of Attikka Amuna and other irrigation networks from the Budget by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in keeping with the Mahinda Chintana concept.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa said that the people of the Magampattu will get an opportunity to export, export-oriented products to foreign countries with the commissioning of the Hambantota Magampura Sea Port.
