Cruelty to animals

The tendency of human beings is to get alarmed when you see bleeding injuries. All passers-by too would gather at a scene of an accident and even though the victim was a stranger.

All mushy mushy

If they can, why can’t we?

Immediate reaction would be to stop any vehicle that passes to move the victim to the nearest medical centre. Why this is happening? It is a human feeling, which has no race or religion. The alarm is that somebody is suffering or might die. Why not this theory applied to dogs and cats. I live at Maddumagewatte Housing complex, Nugegoda, consisting of a sizeable population.

Few residents hate cats and dogs and they harass them by attacking with stones and sticks, make these animals to limp with swollen limbs. Some pour hot water on them. This gives delight to some. It is a pity to note the people failing to show mercy to these innocent animals. Don’t they have a right to live. Only sin they do is to dirty the surroundings, since they do not know to use toilets.

Religions say mercy to animals is the best way of bestowing merit on you. A person who hurts an animal is termed as an anti-religious man. No merit will fall on him if he hurts animals. I appeal to all religious sects to make it mandatory in their daily sermons/preaching/poojas to inculcate mercy on animals the only path to bestow merits on humans. To fulfil anyone’s vow or request from the Almighty God without mercy to animals would pave the way for you to seek the path of suffering and destruction.
