New development program

With a view to developing volleyball, netball and Kabaddi in rural areas The National Youth Services Council launches a new program to form pools islandwide.

The district level sports pools are already formed and the selection competitions for the national level pool will be held on January 8, 2011 at the National Youth Centre courts, Maharagama.

At the selections 10 men and 10 women each for the volleyball pools, 15 women for netball pool and 10 for Kabaddi pool will be selected and they will be given 2 years of residential training at Heiyanthuduwa Sports School.

The Youth Affairs and Skills Development Ministry will provide funds for the two year program.

At end of training national youth volleyball, netball and Kabaddi teams will be formed. These sportsmen and sportswomen will get the opportunity to get foreign training also.

And also these sportsmen and sportswomen will be appointed as sports trainers for rural areas.
