Committee appointed to probe Asian Games debacle
Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has under the powers vested
in terms of the provisions of the Sports Act. No. 25 of 1973 appointed a
committee consisting of the following members with immediate effect to
investigate into the poor performance by the Sri Lankan sportsmen and
women at the 2010 Asian games and to submit proposals to prevent a
recurrence of such a situation.
Committee Chairman: Former Secretary to the Sports and Youth Affairs
Ministry K A S Gunasekara
Committee Members: President National Sports Council Dr M de Z
Gunasekara, Former Additional Secretary to the State Recourses and
Enterprise Development Ministry and former Sports Director Miss Nelum
Gunasekara
Secretary of the Committee: Sports Ministry Additional Secretary
(Admin) S S N de Silva
The Minister has directed this committee to report reasons for the
poor performance by the Sri Lankan sportsmen and women at the 2010 Asian
Games and to recommend a course of action to prevent a recurrence of
such a situation.
He also requests representatives of the National Olympic Committee,
Officers, Sportsmen and Women, representatives of National Federations
and Journalists who participated at the 2010 Asian Games and the general
public interested in the field of sports to submit their comments and
suggestions to the above committee.
The Committee will meet at the Sports Ministry and those interested
are invited to send their comments and suggestions to the Committee
addressed to Actg. Secretary, Sports Ministry, 7 A, Reid Avenue, Colombo
