More houses for Police personnel

The housing problem of police personnel will be solved very soon. The
Police Department had made all arrangements to acquire bare State lands
to build houses for the police personnel, IGP Mahinda Balasuriya said
addressing the media at the Police Headquarters Tuesday.

“We are in a modern world, therefore a knowledge of Information
Technology (IT) is also very important to police personnel to conduct
their day to day duties.”
OICs in 425 Police Stations must have a knowledge in IT to help them
with their future work, the IGP said.
Over 600 policemen and women will be given Tamil classes to deploy
them to work in the North and in the East specially. Tamil speaking
policemen and women will also be deployed in the other districts, the
IGP said.
This Tamil speaking training course will be conducted by the Crime
Division of the Police Department in collaboration with the Sri Lanka
Police Academy at the Crime Division Training at “Vilasitha Niwasa”
Colombo, the IGP said.
The Traffic police will also crack the whip on drivers who don’t wear
‘seat belts.’ Not only drivers, even other passengers will also have to
use the seat belt for protection purposes, the IGP said.
Over 2,062 fatal and 30,347 other accidents had been reported last
year. Traffic police will take all the measures to control the heavy
traffic flow on the high ways.
