National Safety Day marked

National Safety Day which falls on December 26 was marked yesterday
at the Ayurvedic Corporation.
Ayurvedic Corporation Chairman Somaweera Chandrasiri presided over
the meeting and spoke on disaster management practices for sustainable
development.
"The Tsunami disaster of December 26, 2004 killed 35,000 people in
Sri Lankan and damaged property worth, of US $ 900 million.
During the past, we had to face floods, landslides, epidemics,
cyclones, civil and internal strife, bomb blasts wild fires etc.
Therefore, we all have to take precautions to avoid such disasters. It
will be essential for the sustainable development of this country," he
said.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister gave leadership to
help the people displaced by the Tsunami at that time, he said. |
